Fun and Play is Important for Mental Health
Hello again! When we talk about mental health, it often feels very heavy. Today I want to focus on one part of mental health that people often forget- incorporating fun and play into our lives. Children are great at this, and play is one way kids process their experiences, but it is also important to keep fun and play as part of our lives into adulthood, too!
When was the last time you remember having fun? You were excited, playing, or really enjoying whatever activity you were doing? If it was over a week ago, then it is time to think about adding some fun and playful time into your life.
Play and fun for adults is important for multiple reasons. It is beneficial for adults because it can help heal emotional hurt, relieve stress, and boost creativity. Play can also improve relationship connections and increase cooperation.
Play and fun can look different depending on what you enjoy. It can be building a fort with your kids, playing fetch with a dog, using toys to play with a cat, doing something with friends or a partner, or by yourself. There are 1000s of ways to have fun! Playing games
Telling jokes
Water balloon fights
Painting
Drawing
Anything art
Kayaking
Nature walks
Going to a comedy show
Watching a funny show/movie
Play basketball (think of the games Horse or Knockout)
Puzzles
Go to a park
Bake cookies (or some other tasty treat)
Trivia night
Google "100 Get to Know You Questions" and play with a friend
And these are just to name a few!
What are some ways you could incorporate fun into your life more consistently?
Thanks for reading and being in connection with me,
