Brainspotting Can Help Process Trauma

Hello again! I recently did more trauma training to be able to provide Brainspotting (BSP) therapy to clients and I want to give you some information about it! BSP is very effective for processing trauma, and since April is Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month, it seems fitting to let people know about this type of trauma therapy. Brainspotting's motto is "where you look affects how you feel". It is a somatic (body) based therapy that helps locate where the memories or feelings are stored in the brain. Once these spots are found, it is easier to process the memory or feeling so people feel less triggered, better in control of their emotions, and have less "activation" or emotional charge when thinking about the event.

Brainspotting is similar to EMDR in that it utilizes bilateral stimulation to reprocess and research is showing similar outcomes as EMDR. At this point, it seems like a personal choice as to which people prefer- EMDR or BSP- and I am so excited to be able to provide both for people to determine which one works best for them. While Brainspotting was created to help heal from trauma, it can also be used to help anxiety and depression symptoms. I have included a couple links for more information, but feel free to reach out with any questions.
