Struggling to Feel Grateful?

Hello again! Gratitude can be difficult to find at times, and in the last few months it seems even more difficult. Feeling stuck or focusing on the negative can be tricky to change. One way we can shift out of these negative feelings is by identifying things we feel grateful for.

Gratitude requires making a conscious effort to appreciate what is going well in our lives.

We know that expressing gratitude regularly helps our mood feel less depressed and less anxious. Expressing gratitude also helps increase feelings of motivation and happiness.

Most people think that there has to be something big happening in life to feel grateful. But actually, there are constantly things we can feel grateful for. They may be small, but it is important to identify them.

What can you feel grateful for right now? In this moment?

Are you warm?

Do you have food/clean water?

What is one thing you enjoy in your home? Neighborhood?

Is there a part of your body that feels good or comfortable?

What is an aspect of your physical health you feel grateful for?

Do you have someone in your life who loves you unconditionally?

Do you have a hobby you enjoy?

What was something that made you smile/laugh today?

What was an activity you engaged in today that made you feel good?

I try and find things throughout the day that I am grateful for. It could be feeling grateful that my car started and I could get to work on time, or feeling grateful that parts of my body are working (like my hands/fingers while I write this), or feeling grateful for a warm bed. There are things to be grateful for in every moment, we just have to find them.

Thanks for reading and being in connection with me,
